Auto Ads

Auto ads are a family of ad formats that offer a simple and innovative way for you to monetize your content. With Auto ads, you place the same piece of ad code once on each page. After you’ve added the code, Google automatically shows ads at optimal times when they’re likely to perform well for you and provide a good experience for your users. Auto ads are a fast and easy way for AdSense publishers to get up and running with ads.

Choose Auto ads if you’re looking for:
Automation: Google works out which ads to show and where to show them, leaving you free to focus on creating great content.
Simplicity: you control all the ads with the flick of a switch.
Convenience: Auto ads work on mobile, tablet, and desktop and provide good ad coverage on your pages.

Benefits Of Auto ads

  • They let you focus on creating great content. Auto ads automatically place and optimize your ads for you so you don’t have to spend time doing it yourself.
  • They potentially increase your revenue. Auto ads analyze your pages and find new places to show ads based on your layout, content, and existing Google ads.
  • They’re easy to use. You place the same piece of code just once on each page that you want to show Auto ads. Google takes care of the rest.

Ad units

Ad units are for AdSense publishers who want full control over the placement of their ads.

Choose ad units if you’re looking for:

  • Control: select from a range of ad types and ad sizes, and position your ads exactly where you want them to appear on your pages.

Some things to be aware of with ad units:

  • Ad units are manual, so don’t forget to place them on all your pages where you want ads to show.
  • Keep in mind that there are rules about where you can place ad units. It’s up to you to ensure that your ads comply with the AdSense program policies.
  • Some ad formats such as anchors and vignettes are not available for ad units.

Create a responsive ad unit

Responsive ad units allow you to support a wide range of devices (i.e., computers, phones, tablets, etc.) by automatically adapting their size to fit your page layout. Regardless of which device users use to visit your site, responsive ad units can help you provide a great ad experience.

While Google responsive ad units are intended to work with responsive web design pages, they also work on non-responsive sites too. If you’re thinking about going multi-screen in the future, you can save yourself time by adding responsive ad units now. Note that to replace your existing ad units with responsive ones, you first need to remove the old ad code and then add the new responsive ad code.

To create a new responsive ad unit, follow these steps:

  • Generate the ad code.

To generate the ad code for a responsive ad unit:

  • Create an ad unit in the usual way, making sure to select “Responsive” from the Ad size drop-down in the process, and click Save and get code.
  • Place the ad code on your site.
Copy and paste the ad code into the HTML source code of your page where you’d like the ad to appear, keeping in mind that it will dynamically inherit the size of the parent container.

Note: Once you’ve placed your ad code, Google recommends that you test your ads on different devices and screens to make sure that the responsive behavior is working correctly.

Tracking the performance of responsive ad units
You can track the performance of your responsive ad units by viewing the Ad units report on your Reports page. If you want to track the sizes of the ads that have been served from your responsive ad units, you can view the Creative sizes report.
